Convergence and Divergence of the European Union and the United States towards (I.R.) of Iran

The European Union and the U.S. have two approaches towards I.R. of Iran: 1 on political and security matters, like a nuclear energy for military purpose, or dual use of nuclear energy b terrorism c security of Israel and peace process in the Middle East d human rights; they have convergent policies. But on matters of assuming greater share of Iranian market, oil and gas dependency and entering into oil and gas in Iranʹs energy activities, the European Union and the U.S. have divergent approaches. Ir. of Iran as an intermediate variable can benefit from divergent interests of the EU, the US in economic and commercial fields, and enhance its national interest. On the whole, on political and security matters the EU and the US with due regard to relevant independent variables, have pursued convergent policies, but in economic and commercial areas the EU and the US due to rivalries have followed divergent policies, towards IR. of Iran.
