A Comparative Survey about Terrorism News in IRNA & VOA Persian Service Websites during 2002-2007

This research is a comparative study on the news content on terrorism on the news sites of IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency) and the Persian desk of VOA (Voice of America). These two sites are run by two different political policies with different trends; therefore the basic question of this research is to identify different directions against terrorism, founders and their victims. For this purpose, the content analysis method is applied. Although, both sites considered terrorism as a negative, detested and condemned phenomenon, nevertheless, they have different views and ideas on meaning, nature, examples, terror geography and even solutions against terrorism. Both sites principally showed terrorism as a political phenomenon; however, the Persian desk of VOA proposed terrorism as a religious phenomenon. Finally, the researcher observing the most terrorist events reported from developed and developing countries during that period, concludes that there is not a meaningful correlation between terrorist event in a region and government system type, even though terrorism is not randomly scattered in the world.
