The Middle East is a strategically sensitive region in the world, in a way that the security of the each country in this region affects that of another country in the same region, and any war or insecurity in the region endangers the security of other countries in it. National security is used as a new variable, but this new variable itself depends on variables which, if ignored, will endanger the national security of other countries. One of the factors and variables that can affect each countryʹs national security is shaped by the way international relationships of that country are organized with other countries. Considering this, the national security of Iran as a great country in the Middle East is directly related with various factors including the way I.R.I foreign relations are organized with other countries and neighbors. As a close neighbor of Iraq, Iran was faced with challenges after Americaʹs invasion of Iraq. However, apart from these challenges, Iran has a positive look on the events in Iraq, in that the best conditions now exist for seizing opportunities and meeting challenges through organizing foreign relations and diplomacy. So, this article addresses the effects of the American occupation of Iraq on the I.R.I national security in terms of challenges and opportunities. These challenges and opportunities have been addressed in military-security, political, economical, cultural-social, and health terms.
