The Impact of Nation-State Building on Saudi Arabiaʹs Foreign Policy and Political Stability

The sovereignty of Sunni Arabs and the lack of participation on the part of the Shiites and the Kurds in Iraqʹs political power has been the most important obstacle in the way of nation-state building in recent decades. The efforts to establish a new political structure in Iraq in order to establish an model state in Iraq have caused the Sunni Arabsʹ power to decrease in the Iraqi governmentʹs new structure. The Arab countries do regard the formation of a democratic regime in which the a Shiite majority have sovereignty as weakening the Sunni Arabs, worrying that the Shiites are taking over power and the balance of regional power is shifting. Also, Saudi Arabia is among the regionʹs countries that has a closed monarchical political system, being based on the Wahabbi legitimacy and the oil economy. In this country, the parties are not allowed to be active, and a few of the groups like the Shiites and a few of the citizens are deprived of their social rights. So, nation-state building in Iraq and the presentation of democratic model as an external system environment in Saudi Arabia impacts the political stability of this country.
