An Explanation of Operational Scenes in Past Wars

As selecting scenes for operation in all wars is a very important subject for all commanders in different levels, especially in the intermediate level of war. One can ensure success in selecting the above scenes only when they can draw on precise and effective factors in doing so, which itself requires that the mentioned factors be detected and examined. The Iran-Iraq is no exception in this case, each side specifying land operation scenes (Southwest, West, and Northwest] and naval operation scenes (the North of the Persian Gulf) according to their military, political, economical, social, and cultural conditions and capabilities as well as military geography, and by drawing on factors and subfactors as well, to perform their defensive and offensive operations. Therefore, this research is aimed at studying the past wars, focusing on the operation scenes during the past wars, not to mention the eight years of the holy defense. In doing so, the author has detected the operation scenes in past wars. Then, he gathers the necessary information using library methods, documents, and interviews to enrich, and supplement his information. Also, the type of research is applied and developmental, and the research method historical and descriptive. The results of this research show that in past wars, selecting scenes for operation followed no specified depth and width, but suited different conditions and circumstances.
