The goal of present research is studying the role of adolescentsʹ piety in the rate of conformity to social norms. The question is if there is any meaningful relationship between adolescentsʹ piety_and the rate of conformity to social norms among boy and girl teenagers? Personal factors include sex, major, degree, parentsʹ education, parentsʹ job, income group, salary, the type of residence, indices related to piety variable (creed, prayers and religiosity) and individualsʹ religious knowledge. Dependent variable - as the main issue of research- is the rate of conformity to social norms and has been connected with each of the mentioned dependent variables. So, to explain conformity to social norms Parsonsʹ structural functionalism and social action have been used, Robert Mertonʹs stereotype-behavior theory, Durkheim and Weberʹs view about religious sociology, Anthony Giddensʹ administrative guarantees and Hersheyʹs social control.
In the research the population involved all the girl and boy teenagers (12-19) of Azarshahr (9083 people) and among them 370 persons were selected as the statistical sample through cluster sampling according to Kokran Formula. The method was measuring and data gathering was done by questionnaire. Likert spectrum has been used in research questionnaire to measure law consideration. Statistical techniques of factorial analysis have been used to determine validity and Alfa Cronbakh Coefficient to determine reliability of questions. As a result questionnaireʹs questions had necessary validity and reliability.
In testing variablesʹ relations, statistical analyses of multiple regression, pathway analysis, statistical tests of R-Pierson, F-test, T-test were used. According to research findings, the rate of conformity to social norms among girl teenagers is more than that of boy teenagers. Conformity to social norms depends on piety variables (creed, prayers and religiosity) and personʹs religious knowledge. The more religious knowledge, creed and etc of a person are the more rate of conformity to social norms is. There is also meaningful difference between variable, degree, major, social-economic status and the rate of conformity to social norms.
