Opportunities in the Cyber Space for the Interactive Communication of Iranian Women

Rejecting the gender-oriented viewpoints such as limiting the presence in interactional environment based on gender, the outset of the third millennium and the revolution of information and communication has confronted human community with a challenge. Computer-based relations between people are growing fast and computers are linked together more and more via local and global networks as well as through wireless technologies. Computer technologies have provided an opportunity for human-machine interaction, and even more importantly, the human-human interaction in cyber space in a totally new and innovative way. This paper reviews current opportunities in the cyber space for the interactive communication of Iranian women based on several communication and feminism theories. The method of study is measurement-based descriptive, meaning, a total of 102 women who are active in the cyber space were chosen as the sample and their opinions in this respect were obtained through questionnaires. The research results indicate that the cyber space provides suitable communicational and informational opportunities for women. Such opportunities were difficult to have access to and to take outside this space. Also, as the results demonstrate, communicational opportunities which exist in different parts of the cyber space are more welcomed by women than the informational ones.
