An investigation into Cut-foliage production in Gorgan area

Increasing cut foliage usage in Iranian cities recently shows their importance economically, aesthetically and in job production. There are a great range of cut foliage plants which the most important of them are Cycads, Danae, Aspidistra, Philodendrons, Sterlitzia, Beaucarnea, Nephrolepis and Anthurium. Cut foliage plants may have a general as well as a special usage like Cycads which its general usage is in flower arrangement and its special usage is to orient weddings car. Current research has taken palace on the base of interview with acknowledged peoples as well as direct observation and photography from producing greenhouses and flower shops of Gorgan area and Tehranʹsʹ flower center. Main investigated centers were Gorgans greenhouses and nurseries as well as two main flower markets of Tehran including Mahalati and Emam Reza Markets. Results of current research showed that economic profit of cut foliage plants are not equal in general, some have good profit like Cycads, Asparagus and Sterlitzia. Some have a medium profit like Aspidistra, Monstera and Nephrolepis. There are other group, which has low profit like Lawson cypress and Ficus. The main reason for profitability or higher sale price is related to more demand and usage for them in market and longer vase life. For instance Cycads leaves have good vase life however for Asparagus this is too low. The other facotrs affecting the market price of cut foliages are seasonal production peak, seasonal usage and year round ceremonies.
