A review on biology, breeding and culture of Anabas (Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1792)), as a potential species for culturing in Iran

Anabas testudineus is a labyrinth fish which used as a commercial food fish, in Southeast Asia. This fish is farmed in different kinds of aquaculture system such as monoculture, integrated culture with rice, and poultry and polyculture. Otherwise in Iran and so many countries, it is used as ornamental fish. Because of the ability of labyrinth fishes for air-breathing, and tolerate the environmental deficiencies, they are potential choices to culture as commercial food fish. In addition, some fishes in this group reaching 70 cm in length and 5-6 kg in weight. The aim of this paper is providing biological and cultural properties of this animal to the operational parts of the government to use, and the investigators to work well on unique characteristics of it.
