Abstract
The technique employed is space holder route in which copper powder is mixed with spherical carbamide as space holder. Then powder mixture is compacted under various pressures in cylindrical die to determine the optimum pressure for foam production. After compact, carbamide nodules is removed by running water and then sintering is performed in compact. Foam production is performed in four ranges of carbamide nodules size that vol¬ume percent of carbamide is considered to be fixed. Also at a range of carbamide nodule size the volume percent them is changed. It was found that foams with porosity size of 1 to 3 millimeters range and with volume percent carbamide range of 60 to 75 percent can be produced. It was also found that the form of cells is influenced by the form of carbamide nodules. The relative density of foam is varied by the change in volume percent of porosities. In order not to oxidize foams during sintering, coal powder is wrapped around the foams
