Comparison of anti-Limnatis Nilotica effect of several anti-nematode, anti-trematodes and anti-cestodes drugs

650 species of leeches have been recognized in the world that 50 types of them consume blood of mammals. The anemia is the most important complication of infestation with leech. So far, any drug has been not registered for treatment of leech complications in different nation of Pharmacopeia in world. This study compared the effect of anti-nematodes, anti- cestodes and anti-trematodes drugs on limnatis nilotica. A leeches was placed in a glass with hole of 0.5 mm in diameter and containing 600 ml of spring water then, the drugs were added. The types of movements and effects of drugs was considers for 720 minutes, paralysis and death were recorded. Each treatment was repeated for 9 times. With considering types of movement, paralysis, and death, the therapeutic effective of these drugs were identified in this manner; Levammisole with doses of mean of 7 min, Ivermectin with mean of 21.55 min, Niclosomide with mean of 18.66 min, Triclabendasole with mean of 118.66 Min, Closantel with mean of 59.66 min and Albendazole with mean of 131.33 min. Mebendazole and distilled water were determined ineffective. The low average time for leech paralysis and death, safety, well-known mechanisms of these anti-parasite drugs registered in Pharmacopeia suggested that these drugs are effective for removing pollution and livestock with human and animal contamination with Limnatis nilotica plus other treatment supportive and therapeutic such as hypertonic saline, lidocaine and vinegar.
