Evaluation of microwave effects on tissuesʹ decalcifying procedure

Decalcification of ossified tissue is a necessary procedure to sectioning of tissues. This important procedure is very time consumptive and leads to appear time dependent structural changes and causes more exposure of tissue to decalcifier solutions and reduce its structural quality. The aim of this study is decreasing of decalcifying time and obtains higher quality tissues. After calibration of microwave device, lower jaw of 20 mice were removed and were broken from its incisive symphis into 2 part. Each part was fixed in 10% buffer formalin. Then devided into 2 groups of 20 each. Group 1 were decalcified through routin protocol. While group2 treated as group 1 but by microwave assist. End point of decalcification was demonstrated by Ammonium oxalate 5% and Ammonium hydroxide 5%. completing of decalcification in group 1 takes 7 days. While 12 hours in group 2. Preservation of tissue stracture did not makes difference between the two groups. This study showed that microwave clearly can reduce time of decalcification without any damage into natural stracture of tissues. Thus, the phenomen can be used in facilitating of decalcification procedures.
