Investigation of Chloramphenicol residues in distributed chicken meat in Garmsar city

Uncontrolled usage of antibiotics as growth promoters or to prevent and treat diseases in food animals may lead to adverse effects such as allergy, toxicity, and etc in human due to drug residues in edible tissues. Using of some antibiotics such as Chloramphenicol and nitrofurans are prohibited in broiler chickens due to sever toxic effects. However, these drugs seem to be currently using in poultry farms. In this study, 62 breast and thigh muscle samples of broiler chickens were collected from pouleters of Garmsar. Following homogenization, the samples were extracted using ethyl acetate and dried under N2 flow. They were then dissolved in n-hexane. The resultant samples were assayed by ELIZA after addition of buffer and centrifugation. Chloramphenicol residue was detected in 27/4 % (17 samples) of the samples.
