The Structural Adaptability of Industrialized Building Systems

This paper deals with the problems of industrialized building systems (IBSs) and methods in response to needs of growing population relatively low quality of final manufactured components request for construction in better quality .high proportions of energy and building materials consumption in construction sector and environmental impacts of generating high amount of construction and demolition wastes. In addition to necessity of constructing new buildings .low quality of construction process results in acceleration depreciation of existing buildings and finally .increasing requirement to new buildings. Furthermore .long periods of recycling materials from construction and demolition wastes .environment pollution in recycling process .expensive building machines and materials .effect of continuous (functional.technological.economical.cultural and ecological) changes on buildings in their lifespan.altering and growing need to structures and little and unsuitable deployability and flexibility of existing buildings are items to be included in IBSs problems. These items decrease design life of existing buildings and result in basic and significant structural changes in short periods. The main objectives of this paper are to present importance of structure and components of IBSs and assess feasibility .methods and benefits of their adaptation and remodeling in post-service life. Moreover .practical and technical methods of reaching for the remodelable.adaptable and reusable IBSs are discussed. Also .adapting methods of these systems for affecting changes are presented to show that: a) IBSs respond to need for new buildings appropriately, b) IBSs represent suitable answer according to new design.building.situation and need including the possibility of reusing structural components for affecting changes in buildings lifespan.
