Study of Climatic Performance of Atrium Office Buildings

In recent years .atrium spaces were confronted to public attention and thus .their comfort conditions is too important. However .the climatic performance of atriums is not predictable. The aim of this article was to compare and investigate the climatic factors of atriums in office buildings in Tehran. A field measurement were conducted on two office buildings and logged temperature relative humidity .air movement.and surface temperature indoor and outdoor comparatively. Recorded data were monitored by Comsoft software. Atriums differ in height.areas.internal loads .and glazed skylights and both have full air condition systems. Results were shown that there was no same temperature distribution in floors and temperature swing based on geometrical and material characteristics. In hot season.solar radiation.internal loads .and lack of any vertical air movement.as natural ventilation .caused to increase temperature of upper floors and exceed comfort zone. First three floors .however .in both atrium .had the same temperature and were depended on mean of outdoor temperature. The relative humidity was set out near of low comfort boundary. In generaLHVAC do not affect on climatic performance of medium and upper floors. Psychometric chart also revealed climatic problems as low humidity and night ventilation.
