Comparing the Cost of Forest Road Earth working Operation Based on Standard Method and Field Study

Forest roads were planned and constructed for different tasks such as effective protection, management efforts for silviculture practices to develop the forest (reforestation), and ecotourism, to maximize wood production value, to avoid wasting the wood production. So the technical standard rules for forest road constructing should be considered. In this study, forest road constructing evaluation and investigation based on soil operation and its effect on costs were carried out. The study area was located in Neka-Zalemrud (Watershed no. 74) of Mazandaran province. In this study soil operation volume and costs for about 2 kilometer length of forest road were evaluated by using standard rules.Totally 102 cross section profiles in 1800 meter length of the road were selected and surveyed before and after construction. Soil volume for operation was calculated by ROAD software. Soil volume was compared for selected cross section in two phases, first without using standard rules and the second with using standard rules to plan the cross section. The results showed that there was significant difference between cutting and filling soil volume finally total volume significantly. The difference between soil volume for "with" and "without" standard rules to construct the profile was considerable (using rules: cutting and filling were 10645.44 and 4153.88 cubic meter, respectively while without using rules the cutting and, filling were 12511.59 and 4284.75 cubic meter, respectively).Meanwhile the increased cost as 16967000 Rls. was not acceptable economically.
