Comparative Evaluation of Content Quality: Scopus and ISI (Web of Science)

هدف: تعيين وضعيت كيفيت محتواي نمايه‌هاي استنادي WoS و Scopus در مقايسه با يكديگر است. روش: ابتدا معيارهاي نهايي ارزيابي كيفيت محتواي نمايه‌هاي استنادي تدوين شد. سپس، بر اساس اين معيارها، كيفيت نشريات نمايه شده دو حوزه‌ موضوعي «انساني، اجتماعي و هنر» و «پزشكي، مهندسي، كشاورزي و علوم پايه» در نمايه‌هاي استنادي Scopus و WoS در مقايسه با يكديگر و با توجه به هفت شاخص كلي مورد بررسي و تطبيق قرار گرفت. يافته‏ها: اين پژوهش نشان داد كه در حوزه‌هاي موضوعي «انساني، اجتماعي و هنر» بجز شاخص‌هاي «اعتبار و شهرت پديدآورندگان» و «مديريت» كه در هر دو شاخص نيز پايگاه WoS نسبت به پايگاه Scopus از كيفيت بالاتري برخوردار بود، در بقيه شاخص‌ها كيفيت نشريات نمايه شده در پايگاه‌هاي Scopus و WoS يكسان است. در حوزه‌هاي موضوعي «پزشكي، مهندسي، كشاورزي و علوم پايه»، در دو شاخص «هدف، محتوا و دامنه» و «كيفيت استنادي» كيفيت نشريات نمايه شده در پايگاه‌هاي Scopus و WoS يكسان است. اما، در سه شاخص «اعتبار علمي»، «اعتبار و شهرت پديدآورندگان» و «مديريت» نشريات نمايه شده پايگاه WoS نسبت به پايگاه Scopus از كيفيت بالاتري برخوردار است. همچنين، كيفيت نشريات نمايه شده در پايگاه Scopus در دو شاخص «روزآمدي، ثبات و پايداري» و «سهولت دسترسي، بازيابي و استفاده» در اين حوزه بيشتر از كيفيت نشريات نمايه شده در پايگاه WoS است.

Purpose: The aim of this research was to compare the content quality of two citation databases: Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). Method: First, a set of criteria for the content quality evaluation of Scopus & WoS were compiled. Based on these criteria and regarding to the seven general indicators (aim, content & scope; journal scientific reliability; authorsʹ reputation; updating, constancy and stability; citation quality; management; and ease of accessibility, retrieval & usage) the quality of the journals in two subject fields ("arts, humanities and social sciences" and "medical, engineering, agricultural and basic sciences") was surveyed and compared. Findings: Results show that in "arts, human and social sciences" subject field two indicators (authorsʹ reputation and management), the quality of journals in WoS is better than Scopus, but in the next five indicators the quality of the journals in Scopus & WoS is the same. In the other hand, in the subject field of "medical, engineering, agricultural and basic sciences", three indicators (journal scientific reliability; authorsʹ reputation; and management), the quality of journals in WoS is better than Scopus, but regarding the indicators of "updating, constancy and stability" and "ease of accessibility, retrieval & usage", the quality of journals in Scopus is better than WoS. Though, regarding the two indicators of "aim, content & scope" and "citation quality" the quality of the journals indexed in Scopus & WoS was the same.
