The Relationship between Quantity and Quality Indicators of Publications by Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences in Web of Science

مقدمه: شاخص‌هاي علم‌سنجي جهت مطالعه‌ي كمي و كيفي توليدات علمي افراد، موسسات و كشورها مورد استفاده قرار مي‌گيرند. پايگاه Web of science (WoS) يكي از معتبرترين پايگاه‌هاي اطلاعاتي بين‌المللي جهت انجام مطالعات علم‌سنجي مي‌باشد. تحقيق حاضر با هدف تعيين رابطه‌ي بين شاخص‌هاي كمي و كيفي در توليدات علمي دانشگاه‌‌‌‌‌‌هاي علوم پزشكي كشور در پايگاه اطلاعاتي WoS در طول يك دهه‌ي 2008-1999 انجام شد. روش بررسي: در تحقيق تحليلي- كاربردي حاضر، كليه‌ي داده‌هاي مربوط به وضعيت كمي و كيفي توليدات علمي دانشگاه‌هاي علوم پزشكي كشور در پايگاه WoS طي سال‌هاي 2008-1999 مورد بررسي قرار گرفت و نمونه‌گيري انجام نشد. ابزار جمع‌آوري داده‌ها چك ليست‌هايي بود كه توسط پژوهشگران در نرم‌افزار Excel طراحي شد و روايي آن با استفاده از نظرات متخصصان امر، مورد بررسي قرار گرفت. براي جمع‌آوري داده‌ها پس از استخراج تمام توليدات علمي ايران، كه در پايگاه WoS نمايه شده بود، با استفاده از نرم‌افزار Hist-Cite شكل‌هاي مختلف املاهاي مربوط به نام دانشگاه‌ها بازيابي گرديد، سپس بر اساس اين املاها، جست‌وجو در پايگاه انجام گرفت كه در مجموع تعداد 15856 مدرك بازيابي شد. تحليل داده‌‌ها با استفاده از نرم‌افزار 16SPSS و از طريق آزمون‌هاي ناپارامتريك Kruskal-Wallis و Spearman در سطح معني‌داري كمتر از 05/0 انجام گرفت. يافته‌ها: بين سه تيپ از دانشگاه‌هاي علوم پزشكي كشور از نظر شاخص‌هاي كمي (تعداد توليدات علمي) و كيفي (تعداد استنادها، ميانگين استناد به ازاي هر مورد، خوداستنادي و H-index) تفاوت معني‌داري مشاهده شد. علاوه بر اين، نتايج آزمون Spearman وجود همبستگي مثبت و معني‌دار بين شاخص‌هاي كمي و كيفي را نشان داد. نتيجه‌گيري: دانشگاه‌هايي كه تعداد توليدات علمي بيشتري دارند، به لحاظ شاخص‌هاي كيفي نيز از وضعيت مطلوب‌تري برخوردار بودند. اين امر بيانگر توجه دانشگاه‌هاي علوم پزشكي به جنبه‌هاي كيفي آثار توليد شده در كنار جنبه‌‌هاي كمي مي‌باشد. واژه‌‌هاي كليدي: علم‌سنجي؛ پايگاه اطلاعاتي؛ استناد.

Introduction: Scientometric indicators are used for measuring and evaluating the quality and quantity of scientific productions in the scale of individuals as well as institutions. The database of Web of Science (WOS) is one of the most prestigious international databases for analyzing scientific publications. This study aimed to determine the relationship between qualitative and quantitative indicators of scientific productions originated by Iranian universities of medical sciences indexed in WOS during 1999-2008. Methods: Using an analytical method, the quality and quantity indicators of publications originated by Iranian universities of medical science were analyzed. Data collection tools were the checklists that we designed in Microsoft Excel. The validity of the checklists was verified by experts. All dissimilar forms of university names were retrieved via Hist-Cite software. The search strategy was conducted based on the obtained various universities names in the WOS database. A total number of 15856 documents were retrieved. SPSS16 was used to analyze the data. Kruskal- Wallis and Spearman tests were used to calculate the chi-square values. Results: Analysis of data indicated a significant difference among three types of universities of medical sciences in the term of quantitative and qualitative indicators. Moreover, the Spearman tests showed a positive and significant correlation between quantitative and qualitative indicators. Conclusion: The study indicated that the universities which produced a greater number of scientific productions also had more favorable conditions in the term of quality attributes such as citations and H-index. This may suggest that the universities have taken into consideration not only the quantitative but also the qualitative aspects of publications. Keywords: Scientometrics; Databases; Citation.
