Does the History of Engineering Require the Philosophy of Engineering?

در اين مقاله به بررسي تحليلي و نقادانه‌ي تاثير فلسفه‌ي مهندسي بر گردآوري تاريخ مهندسي پرداخته مي‌شود و به‌دنبال پاسخي تفصيلي به اين پرسش هستيم كه «آيا تاريخ مهندسي به فلسفه‌ي مهندسي نياز دارد». از اين‌رو، ابتدا رابطه‌ي ميان مهندسي و فن (/تكنيك) و سپس رابطه‌ي ميان مهندسي و فناوري (/تكنولوژي) تعريف مي‌شود. بر اين اساس، فناوري به منزله‌ي نظام معرفتي تحقق‌يافته و مهندسي به منزله‌ي دانش، مهارت و فعاليت خلاقانه‌ي بالقوه‌ در چارچوب و در تعامل با نظام فناورانه‌ي مفروض تعريف مي‌شود. در ادامه، فلسفه‌ي مهندسي به عنوان حوزه‌ي توسعه‌يافته‌اي از فلسفه‌ي فناوري معرفي شده و يادآوري مي‌گردد فلسفه‌ي مهندسي دست‌كم با برخورداري از پرسش اصيل «مهندسي چيست؟» مي‌تواند به عنوان حوزه‌ي فلسفي مستقلي شناخته شود. از اين‌رو، برخي از مسايل و موضوعات فلسفه‌ي فناوري درون حوزه‌ي فلسفه‌ي مهندسي نفوذ يافته و تعميم مي‌يابد؛ مسايلي از قبيل تحديد حدود ميان مصنوع مهندسي‌شده و شي طبيعي، تحديد حدود ميان مهندسي و علم، تقدم وجودي و تاريخي ميان مهندسي و علم، و خودمختاري معرفت مهندسي از بافت اجتماعي. سرانجام، با طرح برخي نمونه پرسش‌هاي قابل بررسي و گشوده، تاثير هر يك از مسايل مذكور بر آغاز و انجام گردآوري تاريخ مهندسي آشكار مي‌شود. در نتيجه به نظر مي‌رسد، محققان و مورخان تاريخ مهندسي شايسته است خود را مخاطب چنين مسايل و پرسش‌هايي قرار داده و موضعي نقادانه و راهبردي نسبت به هر يك از آن‌ها اختيار كنند.

This paper analyzes critically how the philosophy of engineering affects to collect the history of engineering so that it is answered in detail to this problem that “Does the history of engineering entail the philosophy of engineering”. At first, it is identified the relation of between engineering and technique, in order to be explored the relation of between engineering and technology. Therefore, it is defined technology as an actual epistemic system and engineering as a knowledge and potential creative practice into the technological framework. Thus, it is understood the philosophy of engineering as a developed field of the philosophy of technology so that it is distinguished as an independent philosophical field with having, at least, a unique original question “what is engineering”. Therefore, some of issue and problem in the philosophy of technology transfer into the philosophy of engineering and influence it, some of problem such as: the demarcation problem between engineered artifact and natural object, the demarcation problem between engineering and science, the existential and historical priority problem between engineering and science, and the autonomy problem of engineering knowledge to social context. Finally, according to the applicable and open problems, it is showed how the philosophy of engineering and its problems affects to collect the history of engineering. Consequently, it seems that researchers of the history of engineering should concern the problems for their studies and think about them critically and strategically.
