Assessing the Israʹiliyyat: An Exegetical Conundrum

نوشتار پيش‌رو، ترجمه، تحقيق و نقدگونه‌اي است بر مقاله خانم مك اوليف استاد كنوني مطالعات اسلامي در دانشگاه جرج تاون واشنگتن با عنوان: ارزش‌گذاري اسراييليات، معضلي در تفسير كه در سال 1998م به چاپ رسيده است؛ با توجه به رويكرد ويژه خاورشناسان به پديده اسراييليات و تعامل و پيوند آيين اسلام با آيين‌هاي الاهي پيشين و راويان اهل كتاب، آشنايي با ديدگاه‌ها و نظريات آنان، امري ضرور و اجتناب ناپذير مي‌نمايد. نگارنده با نگرشي انتقادي- تحليلي، متاثر از برخي آراي مفسران اهل سنت و به‌ويژه ابن تيميه به تبييني زبان‌شناسانه و روان‌شناسانه از داستاني قرآني (ذبح گاو بني‌اسراييل) در ذيل آيات 67- 73 سوره بقره پرداخته و نهايتا، با طرح اختلافات فراوان تفاسير، به تفسيري هرمنوتيكي از آن‌ها روي آورده و تلاش نموده تا به نوعي نقل‌هاي گوناگون مفسران توجيه و تاويل كند.

The current article is a translation, research and semi-criticism on the paper Assessing the Israʹiliyyat: An Exegetical Conundrum (1998) written by Professor McAuliffe of the Center for Islamic Studies at Georgetown University in Washington. Given the special approach taken by Orientalists toward israʹiliyyat and the interaction and relationship between Islam and the pre-Islam divine religions and narrators from among the Followers of the Book, familiarity with their views and ideas is necessary and inevitable. Taking a critical-analytic approach, after the views of some Sunni exegetes, particularly ibn-e Teymiyyaʹ, the author presents a linguistic and psychological explication of a Quranic story (sacrifice of bani-Israel’s cow) in verses 67-73 in Surah (chapter) Baqarah, and finally, referring to numerous disparities in exegeses, the author resorts to a hermeneutic interpretation of them and attempts to interpret and explain different commentaries of exegetes in one way or another.
