اطلاعات و معارف علوم گوناگون هم‌واره ادبيات فارسي را پربارتر و سرشار از اصطلاحات علمي و حكمي كرده ‌‌است. از عوامل مهم اين پديده در شعر فارسي درگذشته، بويژه از قرن چهارم هجري قمري به بعد، گسترش علوم عقلي و شاخه‌‌هاي مختلف دانش‌‌ها و توسعه دانش‌‌گاه‌‌ها و مدرسه‌‌هاي علميه و ظهور دانش‌‌مندان برجسته در ايران زمين است. در اين راستا بسياري از جواهرات و احجار كريمه كه خواصي گوناگون براي آن‌ها در نظر گرفته شده است، در شعر بعضي شاعران انعكاس يافته كه گاهي به رنگ و شكل آن‌ها در آوردن تشبيهات گوناگون نظر داشته‌‌اند و گاهي به خاصيت‌‌هايي كه اين سنگ‌‌ها در طب و يا طالع‌‌شناسي از خود بروز مي‌‌داده ‌‌است. در اين گفتار به معرفي و نقش نمادين آن‌ها در ادبيات منظوم فارسي پرداخته مي‌شود.

Information and knowledge from different sciences have always enriched Persian literature and filled it with scientific and technical terms. One of the important factors of this phenomenon in the domain of Persian Poetry especially from the 4th century onwards is the expansion of rational sciences and different branches of disciplines, expansion of universities and learning centers and emergence of outstanding scientists in the Persian land. Consequently a number of jewelries and precious stones with their characteristic properties found their way into the poetry of certain poets. Some used them for their color and shape in metaphors and similes, some referred to them for their magical properties in Medicine and Horoscope. This article is concerned with the introduction of stones and their symbolic role in the Persian Poetry.
