Tiraz in Islamic Civilization (Since its Establishment until Mamluks Era)

تمدن اسلامي در دوره شكوفايي و پويايي خويش موسسات اجتماعي و اقتصادي متنوعي داشته كه يك مورد برجسته آن صنعت نسّاجي بوده است. فعاليت در بخش قابل توجهي از اين صنعت تحت نام طراز و تشكيلات مرتبط با آن انجام مي‌گرفته كه تقريباً بر اغلب جنبه‌هاي زندگي مسلمانان تاثير داشته است. از آن جمله توليدات طراز علاوه بر اين كه تاثيرهاي اقتصادي عمده بر جامعه اسلامي مي‌نهاده، به لحاظ اجتماعي وسياسي نيز جايگاه ممتازي داشته تا جايي كه هدايا و خلعت‌هايي كه از سوي حكمرانان و بزرگان به ديگران اعطا مي‌شده، عمدتاً رداها و پارچه‌هاي طراز بوده است. همچنين در اين پارچه‌ها نوشته‌هايي به صورت زيبا و هنرمندانه نقش مي‌شده كه كاركرد رسانه اي- تبليغي داشته است. در بحث طراز موضوعات ديگري از قبيل جنبه زيبايي شناختي آن نيز مطرح است. مقاله حاضر پس از بيان مفهوم و منشا طراز فقط به جايگاه اجتماعي-سياسي، اقتصادي، و رسانه‌اي-تبليغي آن در جامعه اسلامي مي‌پردازد.

The Islamic civilization in its prosperous and dynamic period has had various social and economic institutions, an outstanding example of which has been the textile industry. A considerable part of this industry has been active under the name of tiraz and the related organization, influencing on most aspects of the Muslims’ life. Besides their major economic impacts on Islamic community, tiraz products, among other things, have enjoyed an eminent socio-political status to the extent that the gifts and garments of honor presented by the rulers and dignitaries to others have mainly included tiraz robes and cloth. Also, writings in beautiful and artistic form have been imprinted on this type of cloth, serving as a media-propagative function. Other issues, such as aesthetic aspects of tiraz, have also been open to discussion. After stating the concept and origin of tiraz, the present article would go on to address only its socio-political, economic, and media-propagative status in Islamic society.
