Postage Stamps as Information Sources in the National Library of Turkey

تمبرها مانند بقيه مواد غير كتابي مثل اسكناس، سكه، پوستر و نقشه ها به مثابه يك رسانه ثابت و منبعي براي اطلاعاتي كه جنبه هاي اجتماعي، تجاري، سياسي، فرهنگي، تاريخي و هنري يك جامعه را به روشي بي همتا توضيح مي دهد بكار مي روند. استفاده از چكيده اي كوتاه و خلاصه، تصاوير رنگي و نمادها بر روي يك سطح محدود براي انتقال محتوا ويژگي كليد ي تمبر است كه ما بين آن و بقيه مواد غير كتابي تفاوت قايل مي شود. بخاطر اين ويژگي منحصر به فرد، تمبر مي تواند هم به عنوان ابزاري براي برقراري ارتباط و هم اثري هنري پنداشته شود و برعكس، تمبرها و بقيه مواد مشابه در تركيه به عنوان مواد كلكسيوني مورد توجه هستند تا يك منبع اطلاعاتي. اين بررسي مي خواهد آناليز كمي و كيفي از كلكسيون تمبر در كتابخانه ملي تركيه همچنين تهيه اطلاعات درباره فهرست نويسي و حفظ و نگهداري تمبرها را صورت دهد و آنها را به توجه و نظر عموم مردم برساند تا بر اهميت تمبرها به عنوان منبعي از اطلاعات بيشتر از يك ماده كلكسيوني تاكيد شود.

Stamps, like any other non-book materials such as banknotes, coins, posters, and maps, serve as a recording media and an information source that illustrate the social, commercial, political, cultural, historical, and artistic aspects of a society in their own unique style. Using short and abstract text, color graphics and symbols on a limited area to communicate its contents, is the key attribute that differentiates stamps from other non-book material. Owing to this unique feature, the stamp can be considered both as a communication tool and a work of art. But in turkey, stamps and other philatelic material are mainly regarded as collection materials rather than being a source for information. This study aims at performing a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the stamp collection at the National Library of Turkey as well as providing information on cataloging and preservation of stamps in order to stress the importance of stamps as a source for information rather than just a collection material.
