Analysis of the Concept of Spirituality and the Issue of Meaning

معنويت يك گمشده انساني در پهنه گيتي است كه زمان و مكان نمي‌شناسد. واژه معنويت و مشتقات آن گرچه در منابع اصيل اسلامي به كار نرفته است، ولي در ادبيات مسلمانان، هم در زبان عربي و هم در زبان فارسي، رواج يافته است. آن‌گونه كه كاربرد اين واژه نشان داده است، اين واژه با «معنا» در ارتباط است، كما اين كه ريشه لغوي معنويت همين امر را تاييد مي‌كند. معنا به موقعيتي اشاره دارد كه دست كم شامل دو لايه باشد: يكي ظاهر كه حكايت‌گر است و ديگري باطن كه محكيّ است. همه نظريات دانشمندان با وجود تفاوت‌ها در دو نكته با يكديگر اشتراك دارند: معنا چيزي است كه در باطن يك بيان يا عمل نهفته است و بايد كشف گردد، و ديگر آن كه معنا به نوعي با نظام اعتقادي و اهدف يك عمل خاص ارتباط دارد. اسلام چشم‌اندازي جامع از هستي ارايه مي‌كند. رابطه ظاهر جهان با باطن آن،‌ رابطه‌اي معنايي است به‌گونه‌اي كه جهان آشكار، جلوه‌اي از باطن جهان و حاكي از معنايي است كه در باطن آن مخفي شده است.

Spirituality is a human lost property throughout the universe that knows no time and place. Although the word spirituality and its derivatives have not been used in the genuine Islamic sources, they have been propagated in Muslimsʹ literature both in Arabic and Persian languages. As the application of this word has shown, it is related with the "meaning" so that the lexical origin of the spirituality confirms this matter. The meaning refers to a situation that includes at least two layers: one, the appearance that narrates and the other the inside that is narrated. All the scholarsʹ theories are common in two points notwithstanding differences: the meaning is something that is concealed inside a statement or action and must be discovered and the second that the meaning is somehow related with the belief system and the aims of a special action. Islam presents a complete perspective of the existence. The relation between the worldʹs appearance and its inside is one of meaning so that the apparent world is a show of the worldʹs inside and indicates a meaning that has been concealed inside it.
