The Role of Epistemology in LIS Research

هدف: مقاله حاضر با هدف بررسي نقش معرفت‌شناسي فلسفي در تحقيقات حوزه علوم كتابداري و اطلاعرساني انجام شده است. روش: اين پژوهش به روش كتابخانه‌اي و به صورت تحقيقي مروري با بررسي منابع مختلف مرتبط با موضوع تحقيق انجام گرفت. يافته‌ها: ارايه و تدوين فلسفه براي كتابداري نيازمند ارايه اصول نظري و ايجاد مباني و شالوده‌هاي فلسفي است كه خود به همكاري خبرگان حوزه نياز دارد. كتابداري ميتواند با استفاده از سه جنبه فيزيكي، محتوايي و اجتماعي، خدمات اطلاع‌رساني مورد نظر را براي رفع آن معضل ارايه كند. تدوين فلسفه كتابداري و اطلاع‌رساني در قالب نظريه‌هاي خلاق و جامع، به عوامل زمينه‌ساز بسياري نياز دارد كه از جمله مهم‌ترين آن‌ها مطالعه دقيق و شناخت فلسفه علم از دير باز تا زمان حاضر است. به گواهي تاريخ و تجربه، شناخت سير تكويني تاريخ علم و فلسفه در تكوين نظريه‌ها نقش داشته و مي‌تواند راه‌گشاي كتابداران و اطلاع‌رسانان در يافتن شاهراه‌ها و مسيرهاي فرعي رشته باشد، تنها در اين صورت است كه مي‌توان در قبال تنش‌هاي معرفت‌شناختي عالمان علوم طبيعي و علوم انساني و اجتماعي موضعي سازنده و آگاهانه اتخاذ كرد و به مدد نقد و تفكر انتقادي پايه‌هاي نظريه رشته را محكم كرد.

Objective: The present paper examines the role of epistemology in researches conducted in the field of library and information science (LIS). Methodology: A literature survey method was employed Findings: To present and outline a philosophy for librarianship, one needs to offer theoretical underpinning and establish philosophical foundations. Librarianship could address this issue by providing a desired information service using the physical, contextual and social aspects. Outlining LIS philosophy within the framework of creative and comprehensive theories, would require much supporting factors, the most important of which being a thorough study and understanding of philosophy of science from past to present. History and experience attest to the role played by knowledge of developmental course of history and philosophy of science in development of theories and that it could be the pathfinder for librarians and information professionals to find the concourses and branches of the field. It is only in this way that one could adopt constructive and cognizant position vis-à-vis the epistemological tension caused by scholars in natural and social sciences and humanities. Through critical thinking the theoretical underpinning of LIS can be strengthened.
