The Authority of Common Usage in Application of Meanings to Extensions

يكي از بنيادي‌ترين مباحث پيرامون عرف، مرجعيت عرف در تطبيق مفاهيم عرفي بر مصاديق است؛ مبحثي كه در برخي تحقيقات بين آن و موضوع مرجعيت عرف در تعيين مفاهيم فرق گذاشته نشده است. در اين مقاله تلاش شده است ‌با بحث پيرامون كارايي وكاربرد عرف در انطباق مفاهيم بر مصاديق، حوزه علمي آن‌ را از كاربرد عرف در تعيين مفاهيم جدا كرده و منشا اختلاف انديشمندان در اين بحث در دو عرصه عمل و نظر بررسي شود.

Among the most effective and fundamental discussions on ʹurf (common usage) is its authority in the application of meanings of words to their extensions. The author distinguishes this function of ʹurf from its role in determining the meanings of words and believes that some Islamic scholars have confused the two. By discussing the efficacy and function of ʹurf in applying meaning to extensions, the article tries to differentiate its theoretical sphere from its function in determining the meanings of words, and clarify the cause of diversity of opinions of Islamic thinkers regarding this discussion in both practical and theoretical spheres.
