هاتفي خرجردي جامي(822-927) از شاعران تواناي دوره تيموريست كه در همه فنون شاعري بويژه مثنوي‌سرايي توانايي و مهارت داشته و به پيروي از نظامي چند منظومه داستاني پديد آورده كه از همه بهتر مثنوي تمر‌نامه است: حماسه‌اي تاريخي در گزارش جنگها، دليريها، كشور‌گشاييها، و ويرانگريهاي تيمور كه آنرا بر بنياد ظفرنامه شرف‌الدين علي يزدي سروده ‌است، و در ساخت و پرداخت آن هم اسكندر‌نامه نظامي و هم شاهنامه فردوسي را سرمشق ساخته ‌است و آميزه‌اي از سبك و ساختار اين دو كتاب را در كار خود آورده ‌است.كهن‌گراييهاي لغوي و دستوري، و پاره‌اي از شگردهاي بياني آن بيشتر اثرپذيرفته از شاهنامه است و استعاره‌گراييها و مضمون‌سازيها، نيز ساختار كلي كتاب از اسكندرنامه. تركيب‌سازي، اسم صوتهاي كم‌كاربرد، كلمه هاي تركي و مغولي، توصيفهاي گسترده و خرده‌سنجانه، تصويرهاي تشبيهي و استعاري بسيار و باريك و گاه غيرحماسي، صنايع بديعي و فنون بياني و ... از ويژگيهاي چشمگير اين منظومه است. مقاله‌اي كه پيش رو داريد كوششي است در گزارش اين نكته‌ها و پاسخ اين سوال اصلي كه: تمرنامه چگونه متني است و از نظر زباني چه ويژگيهايي دارد.
