نياز به مديريت و رهبري در زمينه همه فعاليت‌هاي اجتماعي محسوس و حياتي است. رهبري سازماني براي انطباق با تغييرات و به منظور بقا و رشد در محيط‌هاي متلاطم، مستلزم ويژگي‌هاي خاصي است كه عموماً مديران براي دستيابي به آن با مشكلاتي مواجه مي‌شوند. در عصر حاضر، توانايي‌هايي چون قدرت نظم دادن به امور يعني درك ارتباط امور جزيي به كل در زمينه‌اي وسيع، ارتباط برنامه‌هاي آني به هدف‌هاي آتي، برخورداري از قدرت، ژرف‌نگري و تجزيه و تحليل نظرات، كشف اصول و فرضيات اساسي در هر موقعيت، انعطاف‌پذيري بالا، پرهيز از نگرش يك بعدي به مسايل و نظرات و توجه به نظر ديگران بدون توجه به منبع آن براي هدايت كلي سازمان و افراد، جهت رسيدن به اهداف مورد توجه است و مي‌تواند بر رفتار فردي، جامعه و بهبود عملكرد سازمان تاثيرگذار باشد. تفكر منطقي يا ذهنيت فلسفي مديران بر تصميمات و بر رفتار رهبري آنان تاثير مي‌گذارد، مي‌توان از افراد با ذهنيت فلسفي متفاوت، رفتار يا سبك رهبري متفاوتي انتظار داشت. ذهنيت فلسفي ابزاري براي كمك به مديران در تفكّر است. از مديري كه در تفكّر خود جامع، عميق و قابل انعطاف است اين انتظار، معقول به نظر مي‌رسد كه در اعمال خود تاثيري متفاوت نسبت به مديري داشته باشد كه تفكّرش، چنين كيفياتي ندارد. بنابراين مديران بايد به منظور سازماندهي و هدايت منابع به نوع تفكّري كه برحسب موقعيت‌هاي مختلف جامع، عميق و قابل انعطاف باشد‏، مجهّز شوند.
