Two Unknown Toponyms in the Shahnameh

محققان تا كنون تحقيق چنداني درباره جاي نام هاي شاهنامه انجام نداده‌اند. اين درحالي است كه ضبط برخي از اين جاي‎نام‌ها در دستنويس‌ها و چاپ‌‌هاي شاهنامه پريشان و بي‌سامان و گاه نادرست است. زيرا نسخه‌نويسان شاهنامه تقريباً در همه دوره‌هااهتمام چنداني براي ضبط صحيح اين نام‌ها از خود نشان نداده و گاه آن‌ها را از روي اهمال -كاري با نام‌ها يا كلمات مانوس در روزگار خود جايگزين كرده‌اند. در اين مقاله درباره دو جاي نام «آرچنگ» و «نرآهو/ پي آهو » كه در شاهنامه ‌هاي چاپي و خطي، غلط يا گونه گون ضبط شده، بر اساس نسخه ‌هاي خطي كهن بحث شده و ضبط صحيح آن مشخص گرديده است. اولي قطعآ بر همان ارچنگان منطقه كلات نادر تطبيق مي‌كند و دومي با ترديد بايد نام ميداني در مرز زابلستان به توران در افغانستان كنوني باشد.

Shahnameh researchers have not made enough attempts to find the correct forms of its toponymy. The variants of these names are frequently incompatible and sometimes incorrect. Obviously the copiers of manuscripts have made little effort to record such names correctly and even at times they have inadvertently replaced the original names with the ones sounding more familiar to them. Based on the record of manuscripts and regional and geographical information, this paper intends to specify the correct forms of two toponyms (i.e., “Archang” & “Narahoo / Payahoo”) which have been recorded incorrectly in all accessible manuscripts and printed copies of the Shahnameh. The first (i.e., “Archang”) is certainly a variant of Archangan, a village in Kalat Naderi area in Khorassan Razavi province. The second one, with some reservations, can be the name of a battle ground near the border of ancient Zabolestan and Touran, located in present Afghanistan.
