An Inquiry into the State of Imams’ Ontological Authority (Velayat-e-Takvini)

ولايت تكويني به معناي ولايت بر نظام تكوين از مسايلي است كه همواره ذهن عالمان را به خود مشغول كرده است. آنچه در اين نوشتار مي‌آيد، پرده‌برداري از معناي اين اصطلاح و برخورداري يا عدم آن در حق امامان شيعي عليهم ‌السلام است. بر اساس مهم‌ترين يافته‌هاي اين پژوهش، ولايت تكويني مي‌تواند به دو گونه ولايت در تكوين و ولايت بر تكوين تصوير شود و آنكه مورد خلاف است، دومي است. اگر چه واگذاري و تفويض امر عالم به انسان ـ اگر در طول اراده الهي باشد ـ في‌نفسه امري محال نيست، اما شاهدي بر اين واگذاري و در نتيجه شان ولايت بر تكوين در حق امامان عليهم السلام نيست.

Ontological authority which means authority over the generation system is an issue which has always occupied scholars’ minds. The present paper is an attempt to clarify the meaning of this term and answer the question whether Shiite Imams (peace be upon them) are endowed with it or not. The important finding of this enquiry is that ontological authority can be considered as authority in generation and authority over generation. The latter has been the subject of debate. Although it is possible to delegate and entrust man with the command of the world so long as it can be considered as the extension of God’s will, there is no evidence for this delegation. The implication is that there is no authority for Imams over generation.
