An Analysis of the Translation and Concept of the Word ‘Estefa’ With a Look at Shared Meaning and Meaning Layers

در معادل‌سازي واژه‌هاي قرآني، مراجعه‌ به قاموس‌ها و كتب وجوه معنا گاهي مخاطب را از مفهوم اصلي واژه دور مي‌سازد. از سوي ديگر، ارجاع ترجمه‌ي واژه، به واژه‌هاي مجاور يا مترادف، اين مسيله را شدت مي‌بخشد. واژه‌ها‌ي «اجتبا »، «اصطفا »، «اختيار»، «اصطناع» و «اتخاذ» از اين قسم‌ هستند كه به‌دليل نزديك بودن دايره‌ي معنايي غالباً يكسان ترجمه مي‌شوند، درحالي‌كه مي‌دانيم، هر واژه داراي بار معنايي مخصوص به خود مي‌باشد. اين نوشتار، تلاش مي‌كند با استفاده از كاربرد آيات و تفاسير، به مفهوم اصطفا و از آنجا به ترجمه‌ي مناسبي براي اين واژه دست يابد، به گونه‌اي كه، در همه‌ي كاربردها صدق كند و در خور شان آيات باشد و در عين حال، مرز آن با واژه‌هاي نزديك مشخص باشد. براي دستيابي به اين منظور، ابتدا آرا متقدّمين در معنا و تفسير «اصطفا » نقل شده و آنگاه به تنزيه‌ معناي آن پرداخته شده است. در ادامه سير «مصطفوين» در گذر زمان و درجات معناي «اصطفا » آورده شده است.

Finding equivalents for the Quranic words by referring to dictionaries may not enable the translator to convey their real concept to the audience. Moreover, using synonyms or words having closer meanings aggravates this problem. The words ‘ejteba’, ‘estefa’, ‘ekhtiyar’, ‘estena’ and ‘ettekhaz’ are of this kind of nature. These words are often translated identically due to the proximity of their meanings. However, we know that every word has a meaning of its own. Using the applications of the Quranic verses and interpretations, this paper attempts to explore the meaning of the word ‘estefa’ and offer a suitable translation for it, so that it can be applied everywhere, suits the status of the Quranic verses and yet, be distinguished from other closer words. To accomplish this, first, the views of the earlier scholars on the meaning and interpretation of ‘estefa’ are discussed. Then, purification of its meaning is done. Finally, seyr-e mostafavin (the course of the chosen) over time and the meaning layers of ‘estefa’ are presented.
