تبيين ماهيت و ضرورت درك عامه از علم

• On the essence and necessity of public understanding of science

در اين مطالعه درك عامه از علم و لزوم ارتقاي آن به مثابه يكي از كاركردهاي علم بررسي شده است و همگاني كردن علم كه در كشور ايران عمدتاً با نام ترويج علم شناخته مي شود، ابزار لازم براي بالابردن درك عامه از علم معرفي شده است. در اين مقاله توضيح داده شده است كه براي بالابردن درك عامه از علم، تاسيس نهاد يا نظام همگاني كردن علم ضروري است. بدين ترتيب، در اين مقاله ويژگيهاي نهاد يا نظام همگاني كردن علم براي برقراري ارتباط بين حوزه علم و حوزه عمومي و در نتيجه، تغيير ميزان درك عامه از علم تبيين و براي اين منظور ماهيت درك عامه از علم شرح داده شده است. در اين مطالعه دلايل همگاني كردن و ارتقاي درك عامه از علم با توجه به سطح توسعه‌يافتگي و نوع نظام سياسي جوامع تبيين شده است. همچنين، در اين مقاله بيان شده است كه همگاني كردن علم و توليد علم عمومي مي تواند به شكل گيري بين رشته ايها، كاربردي شدن علوم و ارتباط هر چه بيشتر رشته هاي علمي با يكديگر و نيز دانشگاه و صنعت منجر شود. از سوي ديگر، علم عمومي با معرفي فرصتهاي مشاركت در انجمنهاي علمي موجب رشد جامعه‌پذيري و افزايش سرمايه اجتماعي تحصيل‌كردگان ايراني مي شود.

This article discusses public understanding of science and the need for its increase and expansion as a function of public communication of science. In this study popularization of science is presented as a means for increasing Public Understanding of Science (PUS). In this article we argue that institutionalization for public communication of science is an urgent need for increasing PUS and we provide characteristics of the institute or system of science popularization for connecting the science community and the public sphere. Our study offers the reasons of science popularization and increasing of PUS with regard to the level of the development and the type of political system of societies. Also, this article explains how popularizing of science and production of popular science can lead to the formation of interdisciplinary sciences, relation between various scientific disciplines and university-industry connections. On the other hand, popular science introduces opportunities of engagement in the scientific societies and hence increases the social capital between Iranian elite.
