The Paradoxes of Sufism and its expositions

شطح در اصطلاح صوفيان سخني وجدآميز است كه از اهل معرفت به اضطرار و اضطراب صادر مي‌شود. اين اصطلاح از حيث زباني و معرفتي و ديني در معرض نقد و تحليل‌هاي مختلفي قرار گرفته است. در اين مقاله با استناد به اقوال گذشتگان درباره شطح، ديدگاه‌هاي معاصران نيز مورد توجه قرار گرفته است و به موضوعاتي از جمله: عوامل ابهام و متناقض‌نمايي شطح، نسبت شطح با شعر و حقيقت و تجربه عرفاني، امكان يا عدم امكان شرح شطح، عاطفي يا معرفتي بودن شطح پرداخته شده است. اگر شطح مقوله‌اي اعتقادي و مبين حقيقت عرفاني است، چرا شرح و تفسير آن دشوار است؟ و اگر مقوله‌اي زباني و هنري است، چرا در رد و قبولش اين همه سخن گفته‌اند؟ به نظر مي‌رسد ابتناي شطح بر ذوق باعث شده است كه اين نوع سخن هم واجد ويژگي‌هاي بيان شعري باشد و هم با آثار ديني و عرفان تعليمي همانندي‌هايي داشته باشد. با اين تفاوت كه در اغلب موارد ابهام يا متناقض‌نمايي سخن شاعر قصدي و ارادي است اما ابهام شطح ناخواسته و ناگزير است. گفتن شطح و درك آن نياز به تجربه‌ها و كيفيت‌هاي روحي ويژه‌اي دارد. توجيه شطح بيشتر از شرح آن مورد توجه قرار گرفته است.

In Sufi terminology, Shatʹh is a series of aesthetic words expressed involuntarily by mystics during the mystical experiences. There have been multifarious interpretations and judgments concerning these paradoxes ranging from linguistic and epistemic interpretations to religious ones. The Sufis and their opponents have also voiced their diametrically opposing views on this issue. The present study addresses the traditional Sufi doctrines as well as what has been suggested about the various aspects of Shatʹh including its ambiguity, its relationship to poetry, and its paradoxicality as argued by the contemporaries. The central issue of concern is whether these aesthetic words carry more emotional or epistemic content. Another impetus behind this research is to probe whether the linguistic expression of these words is indeed a representation of a special form of life. A deep understanding of these words requires a certain affinity and empathy with this form of life without which itʹs hardly possible to see the hidden meanings of the words. Thus, it is argued that the justification of Shatʹh is more importand than its explanation.
