هنر نورپردازي و طراحي آن، يكي از موثرترين عوامل در ايجاد حس فضاي معماري است. هماهنگي نورپردازي با معماري مي‌تواند يكي از عوامل تقويت‌كننده هويت يك مكان و ارتقاي شخصيت ويژه آن باشد. دراين ميان، بناهاي تاريخي به‌عنوان نقاط پرارزش شهري نقش بسزايي دارند كه به‌سبب همين ارزش‌ها، از اهميت ملي و جهاني نيز برخوردار هستند. نورپردازي مصنوعي در شب، باعث تغيير و دگرگوني نوع ارزش‌ها و حتي تعويض آنها مي‌شود. بنابر آنچه بيان‌شد، هدف از نگاشتن مقاله حاضر تشريح فرايند و مكانيزم نورپردازي مصنوعي بناهاي تاريخي با بهره‌گيري از روش تحليلي، شناخت همه زوايا و درك بنا و تلاش در رسيدن به ايده اصلي طراح نورپرداز و انجام محاسبات در زمينه نورپردازي است. ازاين طريق، تغيير و دگرگوني در ارزش‌هاي بنا كه ناشي از كيفيت ويژه نورپردازي آنهاست، ايجادنمي‌شود. از ديگرسو، ارزش‎هاي فني و هنري عناصر، فضاها و تزيينات و معاني واقعي پنهان در معماري هم، نمايش‌ داده‌مي‌‌شود. درنهايت، مباني نظري و عملي ارايه‌شده در اين بررسي، به‌طور موردي در مسجد شيخ لطف الله اصفهان به‌نمايش گذاشته‌شد تا برتري روش تحليلي؛ شناخت همه زوايا، درك بنا و تلاش در رسيدن به ‌ايده اصلي طراح نورپرداز و انجام محاسبات نسبت‌به روش سعي و خطا به‌ويژه در نورپردازي بناهاي تاريخي براي جلوگيري از آسيب‌رسيدن به بنا، مشخص‌گردد.

The art of lighting and its design is one of the most influential factors in creating the sense of architectural space. The harmony between lighting and architecture can be one of the factors for reinforcing the identity of a place and promoting its special character. Accordingly, historical buildings as valuable urban places have an outstanding role and are of national and international importance due to the very values, too. Artificial lighting in the night can change and transform the type of values and even replace them. Thus, this research aims to expound the process and mechanism of artificial lighting of historical buildings by using analytical method and identify all dimensions of the building as well as the main idea of lighting designer and computations in the field of lighting. Through this, no change and transformation in the values of the buildings due to the special quality of their lighting is created. On the other hand, technical and artistic values of elements, spaces and decorations and real hidden meanings in the architecture are also displayed. Finally, theoretical and practical foundations proposed in this study were presented in the form of case study of Shiekhlotfollah mosque in Isfahan in order to show the superiority of analytical method relative to trial and error method, especially in the lighting of historical buildings for preventing the damages to them.
