The Psychological and Sociological Dimensions of People’s Threshold of Tolerance

مفهوم «آستانه تحمّل» از جمله مفاهيم پر اهميتي است كه پژوهشهاي بين رشته‌اي زيادي پيرامون آن به سامان رسيده است. به ويژه، روان شناسان و جامعه شناسان بيش از علماي ساير علوم به كاوش روشمند پيرامون ماهيت، ابعاد و عوامل موثّر بر اين پديده، پرداخته‌اند. به عنوان مثال، روان شناسان آشكار ساخته‌اند كه افراد برخوردار از عزّت نفس، هوش معنوي، شخصيت سخت ورز و مكانيسمهاي مقابله‌اي، از آستانه تحمّل بالاتري برخوردارند و بيش از ديگران قادرند در برابر فشارها، تهديدها، ناكامي‌ها و محروميتها، «تاب بياروند». پژوهشگران جامعه شناس نيز آشكار ساخته‌اند كه هر يك از عوامل انسجام اجتماعي، دلبستگي ملي، پايبندي به ايديولوژي غالب و رضايتمندي اجتماعي، سمهي از واريانس پديده «آستانه تحمّل» را تبيين مي‌كنند. اخيراً نيز محقّقان اين دو قلمرو علمي (روان شناسي و جامعه شناسي) با به سامان رساندن پژوهشهاي بين رشته‌اي، در صدد بر آمده‌اند تا سهم تركيب عوامل روان شناختي، جامعه شناختي و نيز فشارها و تهديدهاي مختلف را در تبيين آستانه تحمّل معيّن كنند. در اين نوشتار، پژوهشهاي صورت گرفته در اين قلمرو مرور شده و بر اساس آنها، مدلي عرضه شده است كه مي‌تواند سر آغاز شكل گيري پژوهشهاي مختلف در اين قلمرو باشد.

The concept of »threshold of tolerance «is among the highly important concepts around which there has been abundant interdisciplinary research. Specifically, psychologists and sociologists have set out, more than other scholars, to explore systematically the dimensions and nature of, and the factors having an effect upon, this phenomenon. For example, psychologists have found out that individuals with self- esteem, spiritual intelligence, hardworking personality, and confrontational mechanisms enjoy a higher threshold of tolerance, and are more capable of »tolerating« pressures, threats, failures, and deprivations than others. Sociologist scholars have also discovered that each of the factors of social integration, national attachment, commitment to the dominant ideology and social satisfaction explain a proportion of the »threshold of tolerance«. Having finalized the interdisciplinary researches, the scholars have recently tried to determine the extent to which the combination of, psychological and sociological factors, as well as the different threats and pressures set out in explaining the threshold of tolerance. This writing goes through the undertaken researches in this area, and on the basis of them, provides a model that can be the beginning of the making of miscellaneous researches in this area.
