Application of Information Technology by Iranian Dentists: Assement of Knowledge and Performance

ارزيابي دانش و عملكرد دندانپزشكان نسبت به كاربردهاي حرفه‌اي فناوري اطلاعات در ايران

چكيده زمينه و هدف: پيشرفت دانش پزشكي سبب افزايش قابل توجه ميزان پرونده‌ها، اسناد و مدارك پزشكي دارويي و باليني شده است، لذا فناوري اطلاعات بايد در راستاي سازماندهي انواع منابع حوزه بهداشت و درمان به كارگرفته شود. اين مطالعه به منظور ارزيابي دانش و عملكرد دندانپزشكان نسبت به كاربردهاي حرفه‌اي فناوري اطلاعات (Information Technology :IT) انجام گرديد. روش بررسي: در اين مطالعه توصيفي- تحليلي مقطعي پرسشنامه كتبي پس از تعيين روايي و پايايي، در بين دويست و بيست نفر از دندانپزشكان شركت‌كننده در كنگره 52 بين المللي انجمن دندانپزشكي ايران و صد و بيست نفر از دندانپزشكان شهر تهران توزيع گرديد. پرسشنامه مورد نظر شامل هفت سوال دانش، هشت سوال زمينه‌اي، ده سوال در زمينه كاربرد عمومي فناوري اطلاعات، سه سوال كاربرد حرفه‌اي فناوري اطلاعات بود. نتايج به وسيله آزمون آماري Regression مورد تجزيه و تحليل قرار گرفت. يافته‌ها: از كل سيصد وچهل دندانپزشك شركت‌كننده در اين مطالعه 4/30% و 6/3% از آنها كامپيوتر شخصي نداشتند. پر مخاطبترين سايت‌هاي مورد استفاده دندانپزشكان شركت‌كننده در مطالعه Google با 3/94% و شبكه اجتماعي Facebook معادل 8/69% بود. 5/64 % از آنها سايت ‌تخصصي مناسب در حوزه شغلي‌ خود را نمي‌شناختنـد. ميانگين امتياز دانش كسب ‌شده توسط شركت‌كنندگان 3/5 با انحراف ‌معيار 5/2 بود. استفاده حرفه‌اي از IT در مردان بيشتر از زنان و در كساني كه عملكرد غيرحرفه‌اي بيشتري داشتند بيش از ديگران بود. نتيجه‌گيري: اكثر دندانپزشكان شركت‌كننده در اين مطالعه فاقد دانش كافي در حيطه كاربردهاي حرفه‌اي IT بودند و عملكرد عمومي حرفه‌اي دندانپزشكان ضعيف بود كه نيازمند بذل توجه و ارايه آموزش مي‌باشد. كليد واژه‎ها: دانش ، كاربرد ، فناوري اطلاعات ، دندانپزشكان

Abstract Background and Aim: Advances in medical sciences have increased the volume of med-ical records and documents. In order to solve this problem, the information technology (IT) is now being applied to improve health care. This study aimed to assess the knowledge of dentists about IT and its application by them. Materials and Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, a validated question-naire was distributed among 220 dentists participating in the 52nd International Congress of Iranian Dental Association and 120 dentists working in Tehran and included 7 ques-tions about knowledge, 8 questions about background, 10 questions about general use of IT and 3 questions about the professional use of IT. The data were entered into SPSS ver-sion 18 software and the statistical analyses were performed by regression modeling. Results: Of a total of 340 general practitioners, 30.4% were males and 11 dentists (3.6%) stated that they had no access to a personal computer. Some of the most popular sites visited by dentists were Google (94.3%) and Facebook social networking site (69.8%). Among the participants, 64.5% were not familiar with any website related to their special field of work. The mean knowledge score was 5.3 (SD= 2.5). The application of profes-sional IT was more common among men and among those with higher general use of IT. Conclusion: Most dentists participated in this study had insufficient knowledge about professional IT. The general and professional use of IT was poor by dentists and further instruction and training seem necessary in this respect.
