  لزوم شناسايی و تعيين سن در افراد فوت شده بدون هويت و يا حادثه ديدگان بلايای طبيعی بر هيچ كس پوشيده نيست. همچنين انجام بعضی اقدامات درمانی در حيطه ارتودنسی و يا دندانپزشكی كودكان منوط به دانستن سن واقعی و فيزيولوژيك فرد است. سن دندانی يكی از انواع سنين تكاملی می‌باشد كه ارتباط قابل‌قبولی با سن واقعی فرد دارد و به علت سهولت كاربرد به روشی شايع تبديل شده است. در ميان روش‌های متنوعی كه برای تعيين سن دندانی به كار می‌رود، راديولوژی دندانی امكانات گسترده‌ای را در اختيار كلينيسين قرار می‌دهد، امكان انجام اين دسته تكنيك‌ها در نمونه‌‌های زنده و غيرتهاجمی ‌بودن آن در عين سادگی و ارزانی و نتايج قابل اعتماد، تحقيقات را به بررسی بيشتر در اين باره سوق داده است. روند تشكيل و كلسيفيكاسيون دندان‌ها و سپس تغييرات صورت گرفته در آن‌ها با افزايش سن مورد توجه بسياری قرار گرفته و اين مسئله به معرفی روش‌های متنوعی در اين زمينه منجر شده است. در اين مطالعه با جستجو در منابع اطلاعاتی PUBMED ، Science Direct و Google Scholar 36 مقاله انتخاب شده و با بررسی آن‌ها به مروری در اين زمينه پرداختيم. روش‌های متعددی جهت تعيين سن دندانی در مطالعات مختلف پيشنهاد شده است كه هريك نواقص خود را دارد؛ نهايتاً آنچه روش‌های متنوع ارايه شده در تعيين سن با كمك راديوگرافی دندانی گوشزد می‌كند، محدود نكردن خود به استفاده از تنها يكی از روش‌هاست چراكه رويكرد چندجانبه نتيجه قابل اطمينان‌تری را در پی دارد.

  The need to identify and determine the age of the unidentified dead person s or accident victims of natural disasters is clear. Also, some remedial measures in the field of orthodontics and pediatric dentistry depend on knowing the patient’s physiological age. Previous studies suggested that dental age have a good correlation with physiological age more than skeletal or o ther common methods of age determination. Among the various methods used to determine dental age , dental radiography provides wide facilities for clinicians. Being noninvasive and the ability of performing the technique on live subjects as well as simplicity and low cost and reliable results , have led researchers to investigate further on that . The formation and calcification process of teeth and changes during aging has been regarded by many, leading to introduce various methods in which the field. In this study, 36 related articles were achieved by searching PUBMED, Science Direct and Google Scholar resources and discussed. Provided what diversified means of determining age using dental radiographs is encouraged , it is recommended to be not restricted to use only one of the methods because the multilateral approach is more reliable.
