جنبش پنطيكاستي از جمله جريان‌هاي مسيحي پروتستانتي به شمار مي‌رود كه رشدي سريع و جهاني داشته است. جنبش پنطيكاستي طيف وسيعي از فرقه‌ها را دربر مي‌گيرد. نقطه افتراق اين جنبش با ديگر گروه‌هاي مسيحيت سنتي تاكيد بر تجربه فردي تعميد در روح‌القدس و عطاياي روحاني است. پنطيكاست‌ها به لحاظ آموزه‌اي پروتستاني هستند و عقايد پيشاهزاره‌گرايي و بنيادگرايي در همه فرقه‌هاي آن مشترك است. اين جريان به دليل ويژگي‌هاي منحصربه‌فرد، در سطح جهاني رشدي سريع داشته است. ويژگي‌هايي كه لزوماً اعتقادي و ديني نيستند و بيشتر از تكنيك‌هاي جذب مخاطب بهره برده‌اند. مولفه‌هايي همچون مخاطب‌شناسي، سرمايه‌گذاري بر كودكان و نوجوانان، جلب مشاركت اقشار آسيب‌پذير، زنان و گروه‌هاي حاشيه‌اي، القاي ناكارآمدي اسلام و تاثير شگفت‌انگيز ايمان مسيحي بر زندگي ايمان‌داران، حمايت‌هاي مالي كلان بنگاه‌هاي بين‌المللي به رشد اين جريان كمك كرده است. انتظار ايام آخر و حكومت مسيحايي در سرزمين مقدس موجب شده اين جريان حمايت‌هاي همه‌جانبه‌اي از رژيم غاصب صهيونيستي داشته باشد و كشورهاي مسلمان و ايران _ كه دروازه ورود به كشورهاي منطقه است _ آماج هجوم تبشيري اين جريان باشد.
