Analyzing the Structure of Epic Movies Using Hero Journey Pattern

در سال‌هاي اخير، برخي متفكران با رويكردي بينارشته‌اي، با پيوند ميان دستاوردهاي روايت‌شناسي، اسطوره‌شناسي و روان‌شناسي، زمينه‌هاي تازه‌اي را براي مطالعات فيلم فراهم آورده‌اند. روايت‌ها، عموماً بيانگر گونه‌اي نگرش به جهان و چگونگي ادراك آن به شمار مي‌روند. در اين ميان، روايت‌هاي اسطوره‌اي به واسطه ارايه الگوهايي پربسامد و پايدار از تجارب بشري، اهميت ويژه‌اي مي‌يابند. اسطوره‌ قهرمان، متداول‌ترين و مانوس‌ترين اسطوره در جهان امروز به شمار مي‌رود و از همين روست كه تاثيري عميق بر طراحي ساختار نظام‌هاي دراماتيك دارد. هدف اصلي اين مقاله، واكاوي ساختار روايت اسطوره‌اي در نظام دراماتيك فيلم‌هاي حماسي بر اساس الگوي سفر قهرمان است. براي اين منظور، با استناد به مطالعه‌ ويليام اينديك، ضمن تحليل روايت‌شناختي فيلم سينمايي دلاور (1995) به كارگرداني مل‌گيبسون و بازخواني مراحل مختلف سفر قهرمان، به بررسي چگونگي كاربرد اين الگو در طراحي ساختار دراماتيك فيلم‌هاي حماسي پرداخته شده است.

In recent years, certain scholars have employed an inter-disciplinary approach to tie the achievements by such diverse fields as narratology, mythology and psychology, and by doing this, they have provided us with fresh fields regarding film studies. Narratives are generally indicative of our attitudes towards the world and the way we perceive it. Meanwhile, mythical narratives are of a special significance due to their capacity to offer frequent and consistent patterns about human experiences. The myth of hero is considered the most common and well-known myth around the globe, and thatʹs why it has a deep impact on the structure of dramatic schemes. Using the pattern of the journey of hero, the present article aims to discover the structure of mythical narratives in the dramatic scheme of epic movies. It draws upon a research carried out by William Indick to analyze the movie "Braveheart" (1995) by Mel Gibson, explaining the way this pattern could be used to design the dramatic scheme of epic movies.
