تداوم كيفيت هاي كالبدي كه به هماهنگي سيماي شهري و انسجام زمينه و متن شهر مي انجامد، در ايجاد احساس تداوم تاريخي و فرهنگي اثر بسيار دارد. اين امر خود متاثر از شرايط و ارزش هاي اجتماعي اي است كه ضمن مداخله و ساخت و ساز توسط معماران و سازندگان مورد توجه قرار مي گيرد. شهر خوب توانايي انطباق با نيازهاي درحال تغيير و شرايط اجتماعي- اقتصادي درحال دگرگوني را دارد. اين وظيفه طراحي شهري است كه اطمينان حاصل كند تغييرات عيني كالبدي شهر با روند تغيير انتظارات اجتماعي- فرهنگي شهروندان از سيماي شهر هماهنگي داشته باشد و بافت كلي شهر بتواند بطور مداوم و بدون اينكه مزاحمتي براي كيفيت عرصه عمومي شهر ايجاد كند را با شرايط جديد تطبيق دهد. اين مهم در معماري زمينه گراي شهري اهميت دارد كه در اين مقاله با روش تحليلي- توصيفي و در قالب ابزار گرداوري داده: مطالعات كتابخانه اي و اسنادي مورد بررسي قرار گرفته و با روش تحليل استدلالي مورد ارزيابي قرار گرفته است. در پايان راهكارها و پيشنهاداتي چند درباره ايران و شرايط معاصر در عصر جهاني شدن به اجمال مورد اشاره قرار مي گرد.
