The ferrule effect and the biomechanical stability of teeth restored with cores, posts and crowns: Literature review

زمينه و هدف: حفظ نسج تاج دندانی در ناحيه سرويكال، جهت تأمين Ferrule effect به منظور بهبود خصوصيات بيومكانيك دندان اندو شده، اهميت بالايی دارد. Ferrule effect موضوعی است كه مطالعات زيادی درمورد آن صورت گرفته و مطالب ضد و نقيضی ارايه شده است. هدف اين مطالعه جمع‌آوری نتايج تحقيقات مختلف در مورد Ferrule effect بر اساس مقالات موجود در Pub Med بود. روش بررسی: اين تحقيق روی مقالات جمع‌آوری شده از Pub Med از سال 2014-1985 و مجلات علمی- پژوهشی داخل كشور صورت گرفت و از كلمات كليدی Finite element analysis, Fatigue, Fracture resistance, Literature review, Ferrule effect, Ferrule استفاده گرديد. يافته‌ها: يافته‌ها نشان داد ارتفاع 2-5/1 ميلی‌متر و ضخامت 1ميلی‌متر Ferrule، در افزايش مقاومت به شكست دندان‌های اندو شده، تأثير مهمی دارد. نتيجه‌گيری: وجود Ferrule effect برای موفقيت درمان دندان‌های اندو شده ضروری است و اگر تأمين آن امكان‌پذير نباشد، دندان مورد نظر از نظر كلينيكی پيش آگهی ضعيفی خواهد داشت.

Background and Aims: Preserving intact coronal and radicular tooth structure is considered to be crucial for the optimal biomechanical behavior of restored teeth .The ferrule effect has been extensively studied and still remains controversial from many perspectives. The purpose of this study was to summarize the results of different issues related to the ferrule effect and published in journals listed in Pub Med. Materials and Methods: The search was conducted from 1985-2014 from Pub Med and scientific dentistry internal journals using the following key words: Ferrule, Ferrule effect, Literature review, Fracture resistance, Fatigue, Finite element analysis. Results: The finding showed that the presence of 1.5-2 mm high and 1mm thickness ferrule had a positive effect on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth. Conclusion: The presence of ferrule effect is essential for successful endodontic treatment. If a ferrule can performed, the teeth will have poor prognosis for survival.
