اعتدال گرايي در گستره تاريخ تمدن اسلامي؛ يك بررسي مقدماتي

Moderation in the History of Islamic Civilization: a Preliminary Study

«اعتدال» واژه‌اي نوپديد در فرهنگ سياسي ما نيست، ولي از جمله واژگاني است كه به‌تازگي كاربرد فراوان يافته و وارد نظام سياست‌گذاري و برنامه‌ريزي كشور شده است. اين‌گونه واژگان اگر به‌درستي تبيين نشود و وفاق نسبي درباره مفهوم آنها پديد نيايد، دشواري‌هايي را پديد خواهد آورد. «اعتدال» به‌عنوان يك ارزش ديني و مبتني بر يك بنياد معرفتي متفاوت با مبناي مشهور ارسطويي آن، در متون ديني ما بسيار مورد توجه بوده و همسان و همپاي ديگر باورها و ارزش‌هاي ديني به شكل‌هاي گوناگون در لايه‌ها و ابعاد مختلف تمدن اسلامي تجلي يافته است. براي سنجش فرضيه «اعتدال؛ به‌مثابه يكي از ويژگي‌هاي تمدن اسلامي» بايد مطالعات گسترده‌اي سامان پذيرد. اين نوشتار به‌عنوان گام نخست در اين زمينه و با هدف ارايه الگويي براي پژوهش‌هاي مشابه، كاربردهاي واژه «الاقتصاد» به معناي «اعتدال» را در متون روايي، فقهي، اخلاقي، ادبي، حكومتي و تاريخي و نيز دانش بلاغت بررسي كرده و به اين نتيجه رسيده است كه «اعتدال» افزون بر خاستگاه ديني در عينيت جامعه اسلامي نيز رواج داشته و تمدن اسلامي در جنبه‌هاي مختلف از آن تاثير پذيرفته است. اگر اين يافته با يافته‌هاي ديگر بررسي‌هاي تكميلي سازگار باشد، مي‌توان با اطمينان بيشتري از اعتدال‌ورزي به‌عنوان يكي از ويژگي‌هاي تمدن اسلامي ياد كرد.

"Moderation" is not a new term in our political culture, but it is a term that has recently been frequently used, finding its way into our governmental planning and policy ـ making. There will be difficulties if such terms are not accurately accounted for and if no agreement is made over the notions involved in them. "Moderation" has been a focus of attention in Islamic religious texts, as a religious value, based on an epistemic foundation different from its well ـ known Aristotelian one. It has appeared in different forms in various layers and dimensions of the Islamic civilization. In order to evaluate the thesis of "moderation as a feature of the Islamic civilization", an extensive study is called for. As a first step towards such an enormous project (aiming at providing a model for similar researches), the present paper examines the uses of the world ʹal - iqti??dʹ (meaning moderation) in hadiths, texts of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), ethics, literature, politics, history, as well as the science of rhetoric, arriving at the conclusion that not only has "moderation" had its origin in religious sources, but it has also been common in Islamic society, affecting different aspects of the Islamic civilization. If such a finding is consistent with the results of other complimentary studies, then we can have more confidence that moderation was a feature of the Islamic civilization.
