در بررسی های به عمل آمده معلوم می شود كه محققین از زوایای مختلفی شعر و اندیشه فروغ را مورد بررسی قرار داده اند. با مطالعه مجموعه اشعاراو می توان به اندیشه و بطن زندگی او پی برد. اشعار فروغ در سه مجموعه اول یعنی «اسیر»، «دیوار» و «عصیان» كمی ناپخته و سست است. شاعر در آن درحالت خود شیفتگی اولیه به سر می‌برد. فروغ مدتی بعد از این مرحله به سمت تكامل پیش می رود و مجموعه «تولدی دیگر»كه گویی تولدی دوباره برای فروغ بود می سراید. مرحله آخر، دوره‌ی به تكامل رسیدن اشعار فروغ است كه به شناخت والای انسانی دست یافته و پختگی و انسجام در جای جایِ اشعارش موج می زند. مجموعه «ایمان بیاوریم به آغاز فصل سرد» كه بعد از وفات فروغ به چاپ رسید محصول این دوره از زندگی اوست. فروغ بدعت گذار بوده و سبك نیمایی نو را ابداع كرده است كه تحسین بسیاری از ادیبان را برانگیخته است. او محتوا و مضمون را قربانی وزن نكرد و در این سبك، افاعیل عروضی را شكست. فروغ فرخزاد با برجسته كردن نقش زن در اشعارش برای نخستین بارموجب مطرح شدن صدای بلند زن ایرانی در شعر معاصر شد.
