كنايه، يكي از فنون بلاغي است كه بيشتر از مجاز و استعاره كاربرد دارد. به همين منظور بلاغيان در تعريف و تبيين اقسام آن در طول قرن ها - با وجود اختلاف نظرهايي كه داشته اند – تلاش هاي برجسته اي كرده و آثار ماندگاري از خود به جاي گذاشته اند. تفسير كَشّاف، مشهورترين منبع تفسيري بلاغي است كه در فهم زيبايي هاي ادبي و معاني بلند قرآني، بدان ارجاع داده مي شود. نظر به اهميت زياد كنايه در تفسير كشاف، در پژوهش حاضر به مفهوم كنايه در اين تفسير، نوآوري‌هاي زمخشري در باب كنايه، اسلوب هاي وي براي بيان كنايات قرآني و نحوه تاثير مذهب زمخشري در بحث كنايه پرداخته مي شود. از رهگذر اين جستار مشخص مي گردد كه زمخشري براي نخستين بار بحث مجاز از كنايه، كنايه در مفرد و تفاوت ميان كنايه و تعريض را مطرح كرده و از دو اسلوب مستقيم و غير مستقيم براي بيان كنايات قرآني، استفاده نموده است. ديگر اينكه مذهب اعتزالي او تاثير زيادي در بحث كنايه داشته، بدين صورت كه برخي از تصاوير كنايي قرآن كه در تعارض با اصول معتزله بوده، حمل بر مجاز، تمثيل و تصوير كرده است.

Irony is considered as a rhetorical device that is used more frequently than trope and metaphor. Consequently, in spite of all their disagreements in defining irony varieties over centuries, rhetoricians have made significant efforts and have left some conspicuous works about it. Al-Kash?f Al-Zamakhshari commentary is the most well-known source of rhetorical interpretation that is referred to in understanding literary beauties and sublime meanings of the Quran. Due to the great importance of irony in Al-Kash?f commentary, this study intends to examine the concept of irony in this commentary, Al-Zamakhshariʹs innovations regarding irony, his approaches to express Quranic ironies, and the effects of Al-Zamakhshariʹs religious beliefs on the discussion of irony. The findings of this study reveal that it is Al-Zamakhshari who has proposed for the first time the difference between trope and irony, irony in single words, and the difference between irony and allusive proposition. Moreover, he has been the first one to use the direct and the indirect approaches to elucidate Quranic ironies. Finally, his Mutazilaist beliefs have had a great effect on his discussion of irony. That is to say, he has considered some of the ironic images of the Quran that has been contrary to the Mutazila principles to be trope, allegory, or imagery.
