گوتيك نام ژانري ادبي است كه در سال‌هاي 1760 تا 1820 به وجود آمد و هنوز هم به اشكال گوناگون ديده مي‌شود. اصطلاح «گوتيك»، در اصل، مربوط به معماري است، اما با وارد شدن به ادبيات در حوزه رمان، تغييري عمده در ذوق و گرايش‌هاي روحي عصر را نشان مي‌دهد. در داستان‌هاي گوتيك، نويسنده ذهن مخاطب را با رمز و راز، دهشت و حيرتِ آميخته به اضطراب مشغول مي‌كند و از فضايي تخيلي و ماليخوليايي سخن به ميان مي‌آورد كه به لحاظ ساختاري قابليت دارد تا در پي يك گسست، تبديل به داستان‌هاي ژانر جنايي ـ پليسي شود. در داستان‌هاي گوتيك ايراني، آنچه باعث ايجاد ترس و وحشت مي‌شود، بيشتر فضاسازي داستاني و توصيفات نويسنده از وقايع است. در اين ميان داستان ملكوت از بهرام صادقي، با بسياري از ويژگي‌هاي گوتيك هم‌خواني دارد و مواردي همچون زمان‌كشي، حوادث خارق‌العاده‌اي چون حضور جن، پيش‌گويي و سخن گفتن از آينده، پوچ‌گرايي و درگيري ذهني بين دنياي درون و بيرون، واقع‌انگاري حوادث غيرواقعي، دگرگونه نمايي و حضور شخصيت‌هاي شرور و ... به خوبي در آن تجلي يافته است

Gothic is a literary genre which was introduced during 1760-1820 and it is in a variety forms. Word “Gothic” is fundamentally related to architecture but its presence in the literature especially the novels resulted into the considerable changes in the spiritual taste and attitude. In Gothic stories, the writer engages the minds of readers with secret, fear, and wonderful things or points as well speaks about the melancholic and imaginary spaces or situations which can be changed into the criminal and thriller stories. In the Iranian Gothic stories, what causes fear is limited to the fiction atmospheres and the descriptions of the author about the events in the stories. In such case, Malakout by Bahram Sadeqi is along with the characteristics of Gothic features such as time wasting, extra ordinary events like the presence of jinni, anticipation, absurdity and mental preoccupation between internal and external worlds, realization of unreal things, differentiability, the presence of villain characters and etc. all are well manifested in this story.
