چكیده مكاتب ادبی و روش‌ها، اهداف، و ویژگی‌های آن رهاورد مغرب‌‌زمین است. با وجود این، باید به بررسی مكاتب غربی همت گماشت. در این راستا مؤلف شرقی، كه برای نگارش مكاتب ادبی تلاش می‌كند، نباید ویژگی‌های بومی و محلی را در اثر خود فراموش كند. یوسف عید در كتاب المدارس الادبیة و مذاهبها، كه در دو جلد نوشته شده است، انواع مكاتب ادبی غرب را بررسی كرده و تلاش نموده است ویژگی‌های ادبی مكاتب مغرب‌زمین را در مراحل ادبی عربی اجرا نماید. او جلد اول كتابش را به بررسی تئوریك و نظری مكاتب اختصاص داده است؛ جلد دوم نیز ظاهراً به بررسی و تطبیق اشعار و متون با تئوری‌ها و آرایی است كه در جلد اول مطرح نموده است. این اثر اشكالاتی دارد كه از مهم‌ترین آن‌ها می‌توان به این موارد اشاره كرد: عدم تناسب حجم و محتوای كتاب برای یك درس دوواحدی، عدم ظهور و بروز شخصیت علمی نویسنده در كتاب، عدم تناسب محتوای كتاب با توانایی‌های فراگیران به سبب وجود اصطلاحات مبهم و سخت و نبود تعریفی برای آن، یك ‌دست نبودن بررسی مكاتب ادبی در هر دو جلد كتاب، و عدم جامعیت متن مذكور. در این پژوهش، به شیوة توصیفی ـ تحلیلی به نقد و تحلیل كتاب این نویسندة گران‌قدر پرداخته شده است.
