روايت‌شناسي از ديدگاه ساختارگرايان به مطالعه‌ي طبيعت، شكل و نقش روايت مي‌پردازد و مي‌كوشد توانايي و فهم متن روايت را نشان دهد. در نزد ژنت روايت‌شناسي عبارت است از مطالعه‌هاي روايت‌ها به مثابه‌ي بازنمايي لفظيِ حوادث و موقعيت‌هايي كه در زمان نظم يافته است. طبق اين تعريف، روايت‌شناسي بر ارتباطات ممكن ميان داستان و متن روايي، به‌ويژه زمان، وجه و آوا مي‌‌پردازد. هدف از اين پژوهش، بررسي و تحليل شعر نشاني براساس مؤلّفه‌هاي رواييِ ژنت است كه براساس منابع كتابخانه‌اي و روش تحليلي توصيفي و پس از مباحث مقدماتي درمورد اهميّت سپهري، شعر نشاني، جايگاه ژنت در نزد ساختارگرايان و تعريفِ عناصر رواييِ ژنت، در قسمت اصلي مقاله، به آن پرداخته شده است.يافته‌هاي پژوهش نشان مي‌دهد كه شعر نشاني، از طريق سفر به زمان گذشته و آوردنِ آن به زمان حال، علاوه بر زيبايي‌آفريني و تأثيرگذاري، آدمي را به ناميرايي و تسلط بر زمان اميدوار مي‌كند و با تطبيقِ بين زمان متن و حجم متن، با ضرباهنگ و شتابي بالا موجبِ رسايي و تأثير داستان در ذهن روايت‌نيوشان مي‌شود. همچنين رابطه‌ي بين دفعه‌هاي تكرار يك حادثه در داستان و دفعه‌هاي روايت شده، به‌صورت بسامدِ مفرد بيان مي‌شود. با وجود فاصله‌‌گيريِ سطوحِ داستان و گزارش و حضور اندك راوي، جزئيّات و اطلاعات نسبتاً بيش‌تري ارائه مي‌شود و طرحِ اسطوره‌ي جستجو، بهانه‌اي مي‌شود تا نظرگاهِ رهگذر، مبني بر چگونگيِ راه‌بردن به خانه‌ي دوست، مجالِ بروز و ظهور پيدا كند. نهايت اين‌كه: سپهري از بيرون ذهن شخصيت به حوادث داستاني مي‌نگرد و خواننده بيش‌تر تك‌گوييِ همين رهگذر را خطاب به سوار مي‌خواند.
