Investigating the Effect of Narrative Intelligence on Translation Quality

علاوه بر مهارت هاي زباني در ترجمه كه در طول چند دهۀ گذشته همواره مورد توجه محققان اين رشته بوده، بسياري از مباحث و مطالعات جديد در حوزه كيفيت ترجمه، معطوف به تأثير غيرقابل‌انكار جنبۀ ذهني و شناختي مترجم در ترجمه شده است. در اين تحقيق در پي اين هستيم تا از اين رويكرد روان‌شناسانه استفاده كنيم و به بررسي رابطه احتمالي بين مفهوم نوظهور هوش روايي (در حوزه مطالعات ترجمه) و كيفيت ترجمه بپردازيم. در اين مطالعه رابطه محتمل بين هوش روايي و كيفيت ترجمه مورد بررسي قرار گرفت. در اين تحقيق 104 دانشجوي سال چهارم ترم آخر رشته مطالعات ترجمه در مقطع كارشناسي شركت كردند. يافته هاي تحقيق نشان دادند كه رابطه معناداري بين كيفيت ترجمه دانشجويان و هوش روايي آن‌ها وجود دارد. تمام زيرگروه هاي هوش روايي نيز با كيفيت ترجمه رابطه اي معنادار داشتند. به‌علاوه، در اين تحقيق تفاوت معناداري بين كيفيت ترجمه دو گروه دانشجويان با هوش روايي بالا و دانشجويان با هوش روايي پايين وجود داشت. در پايان، يافته هاي تحقيق مورد بحث و بررسي قرارگرفته‌اند و به نتايج حاصل از آن اشاره شده است.

Apart from the linguistic ability in translation which has constantly been the focus of scholars in the past decades, many recent arguments and research on translation quality point to the indispensable effect of mental and cognitive aspects of translator on his translation performance. In this paper we sought to implement this psychological approach and to investigate the probable relationship between the newfangled cognitive concept of narrative intelligence in the area of Translation Studies and translation quality (TQ). The likely relationship between narrative intelligence and translation quality from first language (Persian) to foreign language (English) was probed. In this research 104 undergraduate translation students took part. The findings showed that there exist a significant relationship between students ' TQ and their narrative intelligence. All the subcategories of narrative intelligence also proved a significant relation between TQ and narrative intelligence. In addition, there was a significant difference between high and low narrative intelligence translation students participating in this study in regards to their TQ. In the end, the findings were discussed and some implications were indicated.
