قصه هاي جواهرالاسمار كه با شگرد قصه در قصه نوشته شده است، در شب هاي پياپي از زبان راوي (طوطي) بازگو مي شود. شمار قصه ها برخلاف عنوان فرعي كتاب، به 40 قصه نمي رسد، بلكه «طوطي»، 100 داستان را به مدت 52 شب نقل مي كند. غالب اين داستان ها و افسانه ها به نوعي در طول همان داستان اصلي بيان مي شوند و از نظر محتوايي نزديك به آن است. برخي از مضامين و محتواي داستان هاي جواهرالاسمار عيناً در افسانه-هاي ازوپ، افسانه هاي لافونتن، الهي نامه عطار نيشابوري، مثنوي معنوي و... ديگر نويسندگان و شاعران ديده شده يا قابل تطبيق با كلمات و عبارات اين نويسندگان و شاعران است. اين مي تواند از باب «توارد» يا «تاثير» يا اقتباس باشد. اغلب حكايات و افسانه هاي جواهرالاسمار از داستان هاي پنجاتنترا، هزارويك شب، سندبادنامه، بختيارنامه و...الگوبرداري شده اند. جواهرالاسمار و داستان هاي متعدد و پر شاخ و برگ آن از نظر موضوعي همساني نزديكي با متون ادبي مذكور دارد كه هدف از تدوين مقاله حاضر آن است كه اهمّ همساني و تفاوت روايات داستان جواهرالاسمار بررسي و تبيين شود. مهم ترين و بارزترين مختصه افسانه هاي جواهرالاسمار «تكرار» يك بنمايه در نقل داستان-هاي گوناگون است.
