با گذشت زمان، بحران سوريه به يكي از پيچيده‌ترين چالش‌هاي سياسي و امنيتي در منطقه تبديل شده است. از سوي ديگر تحولات سياسي سوريه عرصه‌اي براي رقابت قدرت‌هاي منطقه‌اي و فرامنطقه‌اي فراهم كرده است. هر يك از اين قدرت‌ها رويكردهاي متفاوتي در قبال سوريه به‌كارگرفته‌اند كه رويكرد آمريكا و روسيه به‌عنوان دو ابرقدرت جهاني اهميت فراواني دارد. از نگاه بيشتر تحليل‌گران، سياست خارجي آمريكا در برابر جنگ داخلي سوريه بسيار ابهام‌آميز بوده است. ريشه اين سردرگمي به استراتژي مبهم و نامشخص سياست خارجي آمريكا در رابطه با رويارويي با بيداري اسلامي مربوط مي‌شود كه سردرگمي در سياست خارجي را در سطوح منطقه‌اي و بين‌المللي به‌وجود آورده است. روسيه نيز در تحولات سوريه از حكومت اسد حمايت كرده و تقريباً با يك خط سير كم‌نوسان موضع خود را دنبال كرده است. موضع روسيه در قبال تحولات سياسي كشورهاي عربي منطقه با نوعي شك و ترديد آميخته بوده و جابه‌جايي حكومت‌ها در منطقه را در شرايط كنوني چندان به نفع سياست خاورميانه‌اي خود نديده و آن را برهم زننده ثبات منطقه مي‌داند.

In the views of most analysts, America#039;s foreign policy against the Syrian civil war has been very passive and obscure. The root of the confusion has created an ambiguous foreign policy for the American Strategy dealing with the Islamic awakening in relation to the overall result of confusion on foreign policy, regional and international levels. Russia has supported the Assad government in Syria and almost with a little swing trajectory has followed its position. Russia#039;s position regarding the political developments in the Arabic region has been kind of doubt and the replacement of governments in the region in the current situation is not in favor of his Middle Eastern policy and considers it destabilizing the region.
